Public Sector Equality Duty

Greenbank School will promote equal opportunity and will not tolerate inequality in any area of the school’s life or work. Our intention is to develop an ethos in which all will thrive. Diversity and differences will be valued and respected by all and they will contribute to the richness of our school life and learning.

Under the Equality Act 2010, we welcome our general duty to

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by The Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

We recognise our specific duties which aims to assist us to meet our general duty -

  • To annually publish information on how we are complying with the Equality Duty including to publish information on our school population.
  • To publish equality objectives every four years, which show how we plan to tackle particular inequalities and reduce or remove them

Objective 1

To foster an inclusive school culture, which promotes positive attitudes and understanding of diversity among pupils and staff.

Actions: Deliver diversity focussed assemblies, lessons, curriculum content and whole school events, such as Anti-Bullying Week and Diversity Festival.

Success indicators: To be reviewed annually and reported to governors

Objective 2

To ensure all subjects explicitly promote inclusion and reflect the diversity of modern Britain.

Actions: Audit schemes of work annually; embed diverse perspectives and role models; provide staff CPD on inclusive teaching.

Success indicators: Curriculum documentation evidences representation; pupil voice surveys show improved sense of belonging.

Objective 3

Ensure the school curriculum and resources are accessible to pupils with diverse sensory, cognitive and communication needs

Actions: Audit the communication and sensory needs of students across all pathways, and provide tailored planning through curriculum mapping.

Success indicators: to be reviewed and monitored on a termly basis by curriculum leads.

Objective 4

To strengthen engagement with families and the community to reduce the risk of persistent absence

Actions: Monitor attendance on a weekly basis, early identification of those “at risk”, use a range of home -school communication options for students and families, offer flexible meeting opportunities for parents, personalised support for students including designated wellbeing support staff or timetable adjustments, coffee mornings, family fun nights, whole school events.

Success indicators: Analysis of data showing a reduction in persistent absence on an ongoing basis. Case studies based on individual students or groups.
